The Seven Deadly Sins of Liberals

 January 9, 2006

“The president is a lying bastard,” pronounced oxymoronic peace-lover Cindy Sheehan to a clearly approving Carol Costello on CNN.

"You sound more informed than most U.S. Congress people, so maybe you should run," suggested Chris Matthews to a rambling Sheehan on MSNBC.

“Bush thought 9/11 gave him license to act like a dictator….” wrote Jonathan Alter, revealing his “objectivity” as a journalist in a recent Newsweek article.

American troops are “broken, worn out" and "living hand to mouth," pronounced ego-bruised Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) after not receiving an invitation to vent his spleen at the White House.

"Bush…has no judgment, no experience and no knowledge of the subjects that he has to decide upon," said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, once again demonstrating that she is not being treated for the dyspepsia that routinely causes her to projectile-heave an unending stream of bile.

"The idea that we're going to win this war is an idea that unfortunately is just plain wrong," spewed DNC Chairman Howard Dean in one of his typical Tourettes-like outbursts.

“The fact George Bush had been elected president shows America is "f…ed-up," said “60 Minutes” host Mike Wallace, proving for the millionth time why CBS heads the list in biased media.

“Several U.S. presidents were at minimum revolutionaries, and probably were considered terrorists of their time by the Crown in England,” intoned Brian Williams, NBC anchor and a clearly flunking student of history.

“This administration “is the most corrupt in history,” whispered the ever passive-aggressive Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (conveniently omitting the fact that he took nearly $69,000 from former lobbyist and admitted felon Jack Abramoff). Reid is not alone, however. According to NewsMax.com, nearly 90 percent of Senate Democrats took money linked to Abramoff, including Sen. Hillary Clinton to the tune of over $12,000 and Sen. John Kerry to the whopping tune of $100,000. (http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2006/1/6/100900.shtml)

Need I go on?

There are three reasons why the liberal media and liberals themselves – with the notable exceptions of former senator Zell Miller and current senator Joseph Lieberman – are so consumed by rage that they are literally incapable of acting civil, refraining from vicious invective, veering even a millimeter from their tired talking points, and, most important, putting their country before their own impoverished political agenda and ongoing lust for power.

  • Liberals have never recovered from the 2000 election of George W. Bush to Al Gore, the successor to their hero, Bill Clinton. As demonstrated by their behavior over the past six years, the defeat drove them stark raving mad.

  • In spite of the blitzkrieg of their by-now debunked books, bogus “commissions,” discredited fake-u-mentaries, and trumped-up charges, the president’s reelection in 2004 elevated their madness to certifiable levels.

  • Most rankling, however, is what liberals know will be the first line in Clinton’s obituary and, for that matter, his legacy – IMPEACHMENT! It is this immutable blot on his entire presidency that has animated the left’s raison d’être lo these many years – payback-revenge.

To this day, the Kennedys, Bidens, Durbins, Kerrys, the list is endless – are working overtime to bring down the president, their latest attempt being the warrant-less interceptions designed to learn what foreign Al Qaeda operatives are plotting against our nation with their contacts in America. The liberals’ goal – you guessed it – impeachment!

Stoking the Fires of Ragee

The chief stoker, of course, is President Bush himself.  Liberals cannot understand why their collective IQs, control of the media, and unrelenting efforts to compromise his effectiveness has all failed so miserably. Consider the following:

·        Rasmussen and other polls show the president’s popularity at 52-53 percent.

·        The Iraqis have had three resoundingly successful free elections and Afghanistan elected its first-ever democratic parliament.

·        Consumer confidence rose in December to its highest levels since before Hurricane Katrina, with holiday sales increasing nearly 9 percent over the previous year, consumer confidence continuing to grow, and business investments strong.

·        There was a 4.3 percent GDP growth in the third quarter of '05 and 400,000 new jobs in the past two months. Last year alone, 2 million jobs were created, with Kiplinger predicting 1.9 million this year. And thanks to the president’s tax cuts, 4.5 million jobs have been created in the past two-and-a-half years.

·        Unemployment is under 4.9 percent – a record that challenges any in the past quarter century.

·        Residential housing is up.

·        Energy prices are falling.

·        U.N. Ambassador John Bolton is successfully addressing the longtime corruption of the U.N. (oil-for-food, the sex slave industry operated by U.N. “peacekeepers,” the U.S. being kicked off the Human Rights council in place of Libya, Cuba, et al).

·        John Roberts is the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, (soon to be joined, I predict, by associate Justice Samuel Alito).

How Liberals React to Good News

All this is unbearable to liberals whose words and even body language betray deep disappointment in everything that’s good for America.

As columnist and radio host Tony Snow has said: “One-by-one, the would-be exposés have crumbled into dust: Abu Ghraib, the Koran in the Guantanamo toilet, secret prisons, horrifying interrogations, endless Halliburton conspiracy theories and, now, the "domestic spying" tale.”

The reason why liberals now occupy a “climate of despair,” writer James Lileks explains, is because “the longer one side is out of power, the more it takes solace in the gathering darkness.”

“To the left,“ he goes on, “bad news is good news…the booming economy is a slug on a hot tar roof [and] Iraq is another Vietnam – 48,000 casualties to go, G-d willing…” And if the worst doesn't happen, it would be “worse than bad” for liberals. “That would mean all those bumper stickers they put on their cars had no effect whatsoever. What if people don't Question Authority, Visualize World Peace [or] speak truth to power…however will they go on?”

Given the consistency of their antagonistic actions over the past six years, it’s safe to say that liberals will continue to do exactly what they’ve been doing, i.e., demonstrating to the whole world their shabby, incoherent, angry and, yes, sinful behavior.

Sinful? You decide.

PRIDE, the first deadly sin, is an excessive belief in one's own value. Vanity. Arrogance. Exactly what characterizes leftists in the media and the Beltway – the conceit that they’re smarter, wiser and morally superior to those Red-state rubes who should have listened to them in the first place, voted for John Kerry (who voted for the war before he voted against it) and watched him appease our enemies, raise our taxes, appoint more liberals to the Supreme Court, and base his actions on what the thugs at the U.N. have to say.

ENVY, the second deadly sin, is a yearning for another person’s status, abilities or situation. Liberals are jealous of the president’s visionary foreign policy and of his Social Security and tax reform proposals because his success, to them, means their failure. Pollster John Zogby has commented on a recent poll that shows Americans overwhelmingly support Social Security reform: “To the Democrats: Just saying no is not a policy and demographics are not destiny. Ignore the ‘ownership society’ at your own peril.”  Ordinarily, adults manifest their envy by joining the efforts of their object of envy, the better to share the glow of success, or by striving to equal or surpass him – on the playing field, in the arts, in politics. But children hurl insults, have temper tantrums, contrive defaming lies, bristle with unconcealed resentment, and invariably sabotage themselves. Sound familiar?

GLUTTONY, the third deadly sin, is usually associated with an avaricious appetite for food, drink, sex and drugs. But the gluttonous appetite of liberals is to consume every aspect of Americans’ lives through their watchdogs in the ACLU, judges who legislate from the bench, a “Big Brother” government that imposes high taxes so they and not you can spend them, unbridled trial lawyers who become wealthy from junk law suits against deep-pocket "big business" corporations to the inevitable detriment of "the little guy" whom liberals claim they champion but who always end up holding the short end of the litigation stick, useful-to-our-enemies-idiots like Cindy Sheehan who milk their 15-minutes of fame ad nauseum, and the likes of Halliburton-stock-owning Michael Moore who pretend to speak for the same little guy while stashing their dough in offshore accounts under dummy company names to avoid paying taxes.

LUST, the fourth deadly sin, is an excessive craving for the pleasures of the body. Without elaborating upon our country’s impeached Luster-in-Chief, suffice it to say that liberals lust to control the entire body politic, from cradle to grave. But like all lustful people, they are so blinded by their yearning to ravage the president that they have effectively consumed themselves in the process. The liberals would do well to rid themselves of the bad apples in their contaminated barrel. Unfortunately, they are so self-defeating as to be incapable of following the words of Jesus, who said to Matthew (5:29-30): “And If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.”

ANGER, the fifth deadly sin, is evident in those who abandon love (or even like) and opt for fury instead. The evidence looms large: Sen. Ted Kennedy’s bulging neck veins, Bill Clinton’s bad-mouthing the president’s foreign policy when only miles away from our fighting troops, Sen. Richard Durbin’s calling the actions of American soldiers equivalent to those of Nazis, Mussolini and Pol Pot, Sen. Hillary Clinton – with a straight face – saying, “It is very hard to stop people who have never been acquainted with the truth.” But anger and hate consume the vessels that hold them, just as the wrath of liberals has consumed the last vestiges of their credibility.

GREED, the sixth deadly sin is the desire to “have it all” – including my share and your share. In their transparent passion for power, liberals no longer believe in democracy, in which the majority rules, accommodation is reached, compromises are struck, and the great issues of the day are discussed in a sane if spirited fashion. But avaricious liberals crave the president ‘s popularity, decisiveness, even his even sunny disposition. They can’t imitate him because, well, they’re not him. Simply, they covet all that he is and has, especially his power.

SLOTH, the seventh deadly sin, is essentially laziness. Oh, it’s not as if liberals avoid the arduous work of showing up each day on Capitol Hill, jetting around the country trying to raise money for their next campaign, or hesitating to memorize the DNC’s daily talking points, the better to regurgitate them for Chris Matthews or Katie Couric. But when it comes to formulating policy or spearheading initiatives, they are as the very definition of indolence. Their adherents, however, are quite active – at least their fingers are. Every day, for hour after hour, they e-mail each other everything that’s wrong with our country, contorting the good news into bad news, looking at the economy and screaming deficit, seeing the heroism of our troops and crying body count, and most egregiously, witnessing the terrorists’ savagery and saying, “We have to understand why they’re angry!”

It’s tempting to say to liberals: “Sinners, repent and be saved!” But as things now stand, it is the majority of the American public who must be saved, who must actually save ourselves – at the ballot box – from the liberals among us.
